- Cycle the lovely ‘Apricot Mile’
This is one of many experiences included in this gift box!
In our opinion, the best way to go wine-tasting in Austria, this is a wonderfully relaxed day out on two wheels, travelling through the Wachau Valley. Led by a guide, you’ll wander from winery to winery through this picture-perfect countryside, with a series of tasting sessions included. Highlights include the ‘Apricot Mile’, as you cycle through fragrant orchards, the medieval town of Dürnstein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the ruins of Kuenringer Castle, where King Richard (the Lionheart) was imprisoned in 1192. Suitable for all ages, the longest you’ll be cycling on this tour is just 20 minutes, so even if you rarely get on a bike you shouldn’t be overly challenged.
Located just outside the capital, Vienna, this is considered by many to be among the most scenic stretches of the Danube, and you’ll be cycling along both sides of the river as you learn about historic wine-making processes and taste a selection of regional vintages. During the tour there will be the opportunity to purchase lunch, or you can enjoy your own picnic beneath the trees. A professional guide leads you throughout the day, but you can be assured that the cycling takes a very relaxed pace, and there are no steep hills to worry about. The only problem is - how are you going to get all your wine back to the hotel?
