- Admire the world's largest outdoor bronze Buddha
- Lantau is a welcome escape from the hectic pace of Hong Kong.
Brilliant one day trip, delicious lunch and a very helpful guide. One of the most spectacular things - the cable car ride at the end.
Your tour begins with a crystal ferry from the pier, on arrival transferring to an air-conditioned bus that takes you to the Tai O, dominated by its mountainous scenery. After leaving this pleasant fishing village behind, the bus takes you into the peaks via Ngong Ping Plateau, and its giant Buddha statue. Standing at 34m and weighing 250 tonnes, it is the world’s largest outdoor Buddha, attracting pilgrims from across Asia. Climb the steps to enjoy incredible views of the valley and sea below. A vegetarian lunch follows at the harmonious Po Lin monastery, then a short walk along the Wisdom Path, before an optional visit to Ngong Ping village and its impressive Buddhist Piazza. You’ll return to the pier by the Skyrail cable car, giving wonderful panoramic views of the island, especially Tung Chung fort.
Lantau Island is a popular holiday resort with many hiking trails, untouched beaches and points of interest. Tinggly recommend this trip as an excellent way to see most of the island’s highlights over the course of a day without rushing. Other popular excursions here include Disneyland, Silvermine Bay, and the Olympic Trail, a scenic walk taking in several pleasant spots.
