- Visit the most distinctive building in Australia - Sydney Opera House
- Coach tour around the harbour area, naturally an essential destination of Sydney
This is one of many experiences included in this collection!
Designed in an expressionist style by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the Opera House finally opened in 1973, 15 years after construction began. A troubled and controversial project, eventually resulting in Utzon’s resignation, the building received international acclaim, winning numerous architectural awards and in 2007 was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has now become one of the busiest centres for performing arts in the world, with over 1000 performances annually, attended by more than a million people. This exceptional tour will give you a valuable insight into the construction process, the inspirations behind it, and the difficulties that had to be overcome. Plus of course it’s incredibly photogenic - you’ll find it easy to get a great shot here.
Before reaching the Opera House however, you’ll enjoy a professionally-guided coach tour of the harbour area. Sights of interest include Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, a lookout point carved from sandstone rock that gives unbeatable views of the harbour bridge; the famous Bondi Beach and its surfers; the monorail and the aquarium, and various suburbs in the eastern area. A vital introduction to Australia’s best-known city, and one you’ll always remember.
