The Seven Rila Lakes of the Rila Mountains are among the most popular natural visitor attractions in Bulgaria. These devastatingly beautiful lakes are formed by a melted glacier and lie one above the other, linked by streams and waterfalls. Departing from Sofia, this full-day Bulgaria gift experience offers an unforgettable trek through a landscape renowned for its rugged peaks, deep valleys and of course the magnificent ‘blue pearls’, as the lakes are often known.

The picturesque journey from Sofia to the resort of Panichishte takes only 90 minutes, after which you’ll take a chairlift up into the mountains. Your guide will be happy to adjust the route to take in either gentle or steeper gradients, depending on the ability level of the group. Walk down from ‘The Tear’, so-called for the wonderful clarity of its water, past the almost-perfect oval of ‘The Eye’ all the way to ‘The Lower Lake’ where all of the waters converge and form the Dzherman river.
