- Visit an authentic Cold War nuclear bunker
- Largest bunker of its kind in Prague
- Essential guide to life under Communist rule
This Prague gift experience takes you back in time to one of the darkest periods in the city’s history, when Czechoslovakia was occupied by Soviet forces. During Communist rule, paranoia and distrust meant many citizens lived in fear, which was doubled by the worry about a nuclear strike, an ever-present spectre during the Cold War. Built in the 1950s, this was the largest nuclear bunker in Prague, designed to accommodate up to 5000 people should the need arise. A gripping guided tour leads you around the facility, showing you the challenges people would have faced while living down there, potentially for years on end.
Your guide will illuminate the history of the Cold War in Prague with stories of spying, intrigue and violence. You’ll learn about what Communism involved, hear true stories of heroism and betrayal, and see the former headquarters of the secret police. The tour takes you into the bunker museum which contains fascinating and bizarre exhibitions of Cold War artefacts, as well as a genuine gas mark workshop.
