- See the most popular icelandic attractions in one tour
- Visit glacial Gullfoss Waterfall, the hot springs of Geysir Strokkur, and the astonishing Þingvellir National Park
A worthwhile day tour to explore some of the wonders of Iceland both physical and cultural. Good tour guide but mix of English and Scandinavian language was not ideal. However that said, the guide was friendly and well informed. The Stokkur geysir was the highlight
The first sight of Þingvellir National Park is one that will be etched into your memory forever. Iceland was forged here, among the crystal-clear glacial lakes and volcanic craters. The canyon of Almannagjá marks the continental drift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, part of the reason this country has such a distinctive appearance. You’ll see the mighty Gullfoss waterfall, the Golden Falls, where an optical illusion makes it seem as if a raging river is simply disappearing into the earth before you round a corner and see the falls in all their glory.
Moving on to the hot springs in the geothermal area around the Hvítá River, you’ll see the geysers of Strokkur and Geysir. Strokkur, the more predictable of the two, frequently erupts boiling water up to 40m (131ft) into the air. Mud pools and smoking fumaroles are also found here. The tour returns to Reykjavik via Skálholt church, the hub of Icelandic clergy throughout the Middle Ages and an iconic site still in use by bishops today.
