I saw a lot of beautiful nature during my time in Costa Rica, but on this day I got to really plunge into it, become one with it for a few hours, if you will. It was a remarkable, pure and primitive experience. I recommend it to anyone that wants to experience a more primal aspect of life, something absolutely removed and alien from the routine and many other horrors of civilization.
Soak up the enthralling atmosphere of this incredible wildlife sanctuary, as you walk among thousands of species of plants, trees, mammals, reptiles and birds. Found in the Cordillera de Tilarán mountain range, the site sprawls across 10,500 hectares, with a bounteous climate and terrain that sustains vast quantities of orchids, the endangered Golden Toad, marsupials, primates and hordes of migratory birds. Exploring the different levels of the forest, you’ll take the Sky-Walk, where you can see life from a totally fresh perspective.
After a spot of lunch the tour proceeds to the Butterfly Farm, showcasing over 30 species of these beautiful fluttering insects in 4 habitats, as well as a leaf-cutter ant colony, and many other insects and arachnids. An enjoyable guided introduction to the the native inhabitants of the tropics, for those not to fond of creepy-crawlies you may want to stay in the cafe, but for the rest of you, it’s a terrific experience.
