- See one of Europe’s most unique natural landmarks
- Explore the incredible Belogradchik Fortress
On this epic Bulgaria gift experience, you’ll visit the legendary Belogradchik Rocks. These towering sandstone rock formations, coloured red and yellow, are of unusual shape and cover a vast area. In 2009 they were nominated as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Situated in the Balkan Mountains, the rocks are among the unmissable sights in northern Bulgaria. After exploring the area for a while your guide will lead you on to the medieval Belogradchik Fortress nearby, built when the region was still a part of the Roman Empire.
Coming to the end of the tour, you’ll arrive at the vast Magura Cave, just outside the village of Rabisha. The cave, which is thought to date back some 15 million years, is over two kilometres in length. The walls are lined with well-preserved paintings of religious and hunting scenes that were made up to 10,000 years ago, while bones of many prehistoric species have also been found here. It’s a fascinating tour and the perfect way to end this enjoyable day out from Sofia.
