- One of the world’s most important natural observatories
- Explore a significant 12th century monastery
- Private tour so you can take your time
A must-do Skopje gift experience, this day-trip begins with an enthralling visit to Kokino, a Bronze Age megalithic observatory at a height of 1,030 metres, from where the panoramic views are nothing short of outstanding. Your guide will explain how the site was used to track the positions of the sun and moon, before you head on to the monastery St. Joakim Osogovski. Set amid verdant green forest, the monastery was founded in the 12th century and like the observatory is considered one of the most significant religious, cultural and educational sites in Macedonia.
You’ll explore the complex at a leisurely pace - this is after all a private tour with a maximum of three people, so the guide can give you full attention and pause whenever you want. See the dormitories, the bell tower and the church of St. Joachim Osogovski, and immerse yourself in an atmosphere of total serenity. The landscape is utterly sublime in this part of the countryside, and you’ll be glued to the windows on the way back to the city after pausing for lunch at a restaurant (not included in tour). This is a highly recommended day out from Skopje for couples or small groups of friends.
