- Explore one of Germany's best-known tourist destinations
- Chance to visit either the Eagle's Nest or the famous salt mines
This tour is a bus ride to Eagles nest near the town of Berchtesgaden which is a few hours from Munich. Unfortunately due to bad weather we had to reroute to the Salt Mines which were pretty interesting. However this tour didn’t actually get us entrance to the mines, it was essentially just a bus ride to and from the location then everything else was extra. While the bus was nice, I don’t think the bus and guide that came along with it was worth what was paid.
On wintery days, when higher Alpine peaks such as the Obersalzberg are laden with ice and snow, the Eagle’s Nest is unavailable. In this case you’ll be taken to the legendary salt mines of Berchtesgaden, the oldest active salt mine in Germany, which has been in operation since the 13th century. Whichever of these two visits you take, you’ll be in good company - they are some of the most-visited destinations in the country, so fascinating are their respective histories, so spectacular is the scenery.
