- Malapascua is about the only place in the world where tourists can encounter Thresher Sharks daily
- Meeting the ocean's greatest predators is unforgetable - and a bit scary!
I had a great time. The staff was very professional, the hotel room was great and I got to dive with sharks! I would recommend this for any scuba diver heading to the Philippines who wants to treat themselves to a bit of luxury with their diving.
You’ll stay at the luxurious Evolution Resort, one of the best and most scenic hotels on the beach paradise that is Malapascua. Accommodated in a deluxe room with only a thin strand of white sand separating you from the warm waters, you can enjoy a refreshing swim any time you please. There’s one swim you’ll be looking forward to in particular however, as you head out by boat into the Visayan Sea to the Monad Shoal, where threshers regularly congregate to feed, stunning their prey first with their long tails, and to obtain the services of helpful ‘cleaner fish’.
Accompanied by an experienced professional guide, who will be able to explain the sharks’ behaviours and precarious conservation status, you’ll dive to depths between 30m and 100m (100ft - 330ft) in these clear waters, where you may also encounter pelagic mantas, devil rays, and other types of shark. Spend some time with these incredible, beautiful underwater predators in their natural habitat and you’ll never forget it. Please note that you need an Open Water or Advanced Open Water Dive Certification for this experience.
