The Nazca Lines were created between 500BC and 500AD. Several hundred individual figures depicting animals and plants, as well as geometric shapes, they were formed by removing the red pebble of the arid Nazca plateau to reveal the whiter surface beneath. Theories behind their purpose included deity worship, or as some tool of astronomy, or even weaving. But while we may never know why the Nazca people made them, seeing them from above is a wondrous experience.

This remarkable find took place in one of the planet’s driest places. You’ll have excellent views of the arid Nazca plateau below as you soar hundreds of feet above the Lines, and your pilot will point out well-known images such as the Monkey, the Heron, the Hands and the Condor. Although you can make many of them out from the surrounding foothills, this is unquestionably the best way to see one of mankind’s most enduring mysteries.
