Beginning with Cheops, the last of the Seven Wonders of the World to remain intact, and its neighbouring pyramids Chephren and Mykerinos, you’ll explore the mysteries of an ancient civilization. Usually built as gigantic tombs for Pharaohs and nobles, and containing unimaginable treasures, construction of the pyramids required millions of stone blocks to be carved and transported many miles by enforced labour. Here also you’ll see the Great Sphinx, known as “The Terrifying One” and believed to have been built around 2558 - 2532BC. Composed of a lion’s body with the face of King Chepren, it’s an awesome spectacle.

Some 27km (17 miles) away is the vast burial ground of Sakkara, where you’ll find the Pyramid of Djoser, one of the earliest pyramids, dating to the 27th century BC. Built in a step formation, the monument is remarkably well-preserved, and has provided many useful clues to academics studying these huge constructions. Finally, not far away, lie the ruins of Memphis, not the home of Elvis, but a huge city, the capital of Ancient Egypt for eight consecutive dynasties. An eye-opening experience.
