- Absolutely spectacular mountain scenery
- Fascinating tour of a tea plantation
We love this Chiang Mai day trip, which takes you on an adventure through some of the region’s most beautiful scenery, with cultural visits and even a charming voyage along the river aboard a traditional bamboo raft. Beginning about 1300m above sea level, you’ll take a guided trek through mountainous territory, with frequent panoramic viewpoints. Winter is one of the best times of year to take this journey - not only is it cooler, but the fog blanketing the forest in the early morning is stunning. You’ll head to the village of the welcoming Hmong Hill Tribe to see and learn about their lifestyle, and visit a number of local natural landmarks.
After pausing for lunch, the tour continues on to the tea plantations in the area, where you’ll discover the fascinating story of how tea is processed, and enjoy a few tastings too. Before heading back into Chiang Mai, there is time for a short trip along the Mae Taeng river - don’t worry, there’s no rapids to worry about. You’ll be steered along aboard a bamboo raft, admiring scenes of everyday river life on both banks. Time allowing, you might take a short trek through the forests afterwards, or simply dangle your feet in the river and enjoy the supremely relaxed vibe of the area.
