The calm, clear waters off Kona are perfect for diving, and this is one of the best locations in Hawaii to encounter manta rays, ethereal creatures that glide elegantly through the water searching for plankton. Wingspans of up to 20 feet (6m) have been recorded, and as the team set up lights on the ocean floor, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the rays as they come remarkably close to your facemask before turning away at the last moment.

A nighttime spectacle frequently voted as one of the best dives in the world, watching the manta rays float gently above you and past you to feed will give you shivers. Friendly, inquisitive creatures, they’ll come within inches to inspect their visitors. The lights will give you unsurpassed views, so if you have an underwater camera, be sure to bring it along.
