- A fantastic snorkeling adventure over the world’s second-largest reef
- Swim through a mysterious network of underground sinkholes off the Yucatan Peninsula.
Guide was great, tour of cenote was awesome. transportation was not comfortable (full small vehicle). Ocean was too rough for good snorkeling and caused injury.
A gentle hike through a tropical forest leads you to the cenotes, limestone caves worshipped by the Mayan peoples who would place offerings inside them for the gods. Perfect for a spot of freshwater swimming, you’ll be equipped with a torch to take a closer look inside these deep sinkholes, and your guide will be on hand to explain their significance and how they were formed.
Returning to ground-level, a boat will take you to into the warm and crystal-clear Caribbean sea, where you’ll explore one of Earth’s largest coral reefs. Expect to encounter an astonishing range of colourful biodiversity, nature at its best. Sea turtles, squids, rays and a wide assortment of brightly-painted fish make this their home, and you may be lucky enough to see dolphins too!
